(FWA 2026/2/3)The Ministry of Labor and local Labor Affairs Departments remind all workers that the minimum wage has officially increased as of January 1, 2026. The monthly minimum wage is now NT$29,500, and the hourly wage is NT$196. With the upcoming 9-day Lunar New Year holiday from February 14 to February 22, it is crucial to understand how Holiday Wages and overtime pay are calculated during this period.
According to the Labor Standards Act, payment depends on the type of day:
National Holidays (February 16-20): If you work on these days (New Year’s Eve through the deferred holiday), employers must pay double wages (Holiday Pay) for work up to 8 hours.
If you work more than 8 hours, overtime pay must be calculated according to the Labor Standards Act (1.33 times the hourly wage for the 9th and 10th hours, and 1.66 times for the 11th and 12th hours).

Rest Days (February 14 and 21): If you work on these Saturdays, it is considered overtime. The rate is 1.33 times for the first 2 hours and 1.66 times thereafter.
Regular Leave (February 15 and 22): Work is generally not allowed on these Sundays unless there is a major emergency.
Employers are legally required to pay wages on time, even if the pay day falls during the holiday. Violators can face fines between NT$20,000 and NT$1 million. If you have questions about your pay, please consult the 1955 hotline.
