(FWA 2025/11/28)The Migrant Empowerment Network in Taiwan (MENT) will hold its biennial Migrant Workers Rally on December 7. The primary demand of this year’s rally is to “Abolish the work-year limit” (specifically the 12-year cap) for blue-collar migrant workers.
Currently, blue-collar migrant workers in Taiwan are restricted to a maximum working period of 12 years. Many workers who have reached this limit wish to continue working in Taiwan but are forced to leave the country helplessly due to these regulations.
Although the government has promoted the “Mid-level Skilled Manpower” system, the right to apply lies entirely with the employer. To stay in Taiwan, migrant workers often face the risk of exploitation and are forced to accept unfavorable conditions.
MENT asserts that blue-collar migrant workers should be treated like other foreign workers, without a work duration limit, and possess the autonomy to decide how long they stay in Taiwan. The alliance invites everyone to join the
