(FWA 2025/12/1)The National Immigration Agency (NIA) has released promotional information regarding “Disaster Prevention and Relief Matters: Care and Assistance Measures for New Immigrants” to enhance the awareness and preparedness of New Immigrants in Taiwan, particularly regarding natural disasters such as typhoons. These measures are designed to inform New Immigrants of the available support channels for handling emergencies, including assistance for relatives visiting Taiwan, reporting lost passports, and replacing damaged documents, embodying the spirit of “Stay Safe, Stay Strong.”

Regarding “Channels for Relatives coming to Taiwan,” if a New Immigrant is injured, deceased, or missing in Taiwan due to a typhoon or disaster, the NIA will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) or the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) to assist their relatives in arranging visits to Taiwan for funeral arrangements or hospital visits.

For “Applying for Proof of Loss of Foreign Passport,” if a passport is lost within the country, applicants can apply at the NIA’s specialized operation brigades or service centers in various municipalities and counties. If the loss is discovered upon arrival at an airport or port, applications can be made at the NIA Border Affairs Corps stationed there.

Regarding the “Handling of ID/Passport Damage or Loss due to Disaster,” the NIA Border Affairs Corps at airports and ports can assist with departure arrangements or the reissuance of exit permits. Nationals without household registration should contact the Bureau of Consular Affairs, MOFA. Foreign Nationals should contact their respective foreign embassies or representative offices in Taiwan.

The NIA also reminds everyone that the “Foreigners in Taiwan Living Consultation Hotline 1990” (Toll-free) and the “Foreign Affairs Hotline 02-23757372” are available for inquiries.
