(FWA 2026/1/12)According to the Central Weather Administration, the Weekly Weather Update for the week of January 12th shows that the weather will feel like winter in the mornings and evenings, but days will gradually warm up. Residents should prepare for significant temperature differences between day and night, especially in the western regions, before rain returns over the weekend.

Weekly Forecast Highlights:

  • Mon (1/12) – Tue (1/13): The cold air mass is weakening, but mornings remain cold (around 14-15°C). High mountains (above 3000m) may see sporadic snow or ice; please drive carefully.

  • Wed (1/14) – Fri (1/16): Days will be sunny and warm (up to 25°C in the south), but nights will drop to 12-14°C. The temperature difference between day and night in Western Taiwan is very large. Please dress in layers. Be aware of fog in central and southern regions.

  • Sat (1/17) – Sun (1/18): A Northeast monsoon arrives. It will turn cloudy with increased chances of rain in the northern and eastern regions.

Weather Note: Why does the cold feel different? You might hear about “Dry Cold” vs. “Wet Cold.” This week starts with “Dry Cold” (sunny days, cold nights due to heat escaping), which feels warmer during the day. The weekend brings “Wet Cold” (humid, cloudy), where the lack of sun and high humidity makes the body feel colder all day long.
