In the early hours of February 6, a gas explosion caused by a Do-sinh oil leak occurred at the Far Eastern New Century textile factory in Hsinchu. The accident resulted in 2 deaths and 19 injuries. The Hsinchu County Government has instructed the Social Affairs Department and the Labor Affairs Department to visit the victims and their families, provide emergency relief funds, and assist migrant workers in applying for relevant subsidies.
The county government will also cooperate with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor and the Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office to investigate the cause of the accident. If the employer is found to have been negligent, resulting in a workplace accident, the government will assist migrant workers in seeking compensation under civil law.
The county government also urged all major factories to pay special attention to workplace safety inspections and disaster prevention measures to prevent fire-related accidents.
According to reports, the two deceased individuals were Taiwanese engineers. Among the 19 injured, 12 were Filipino migrant workers who suffered varying degrees of burns, multiple limb lacerations, or hyperventilation. All of them have been hospitalized for treatment. Currently, 4 workers remain in the hospital, while 8 have returned to the factory.
