Newly appointed Foreign Minister Lin Jialong went to the Legislative Yuan Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for the first time on May 30 to report on business and prepare for consultation. He proposed to select three countries including Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam for the “Digital New Southbound”.
Lin Jialong emphasized that Taiwan and the new southbound countries are geographically close and have frequent exchanges, including Taiwanese businessmen, expatriates, overseas students and many migrant workers, who can become good media, not just through the government. He is taking stock of relevant policy tools and also recommends to the Executive Yuan Establish an inter-ministerial policy coordination group to promote comprehensive diplomacy.
外交部:數位新南向選泰、馬、越三國
新任外交部長林佳龍5月30日首次赴立法院外交及國防委員會報告業務並備詢，提出「數位新南向」選定泰國、馬來西亞和越南等三國。
林佳龍強調，臺灣與新南向國家地緣親近且交流頻繁，包括臺商、僑民、留學生和很多移工，都能成為良好媒介，不只是透過政府，他正在盤點相關政策工具，也建議行政院成立跨部會政策協調小組，推動總合外交。
