(FWA 2026/1/18)According to the information released by the Central Weather Administration on the 18th, a Strong Continental Cold Air Mass from Mongolia is moving south. Starting Monday night (Jan 19), there will be a significant temperature drop across Taiwan, with the cold becoming noticeable by Tuesday. The northern and eastern regions will experience wet and cold weather due to incoming moisture. The coldest period is expected from Wednesday to Friday, with lows dipping to 10°C in some open areas. Please make sure to stay warm.

On Monday (19th), daytime temperatures will remain mild, but the chance of rain in the north and east will increase, and coastal winds will strengthen. As the cold air mass moves south on Monday night, temperatures will progressively slide down on Tuesday (20th), getting colder throughout the day. The north and east will be rainy and gloomy, with a chance of heavy rain in Keelung, Yilan, and the mountains of Greater Taipei, making it feel very damp and cold. In central and southern Taiwan, daytime temperatures will drop slightly, but it will remain mostly cloudy to sunny with chilly mornings and evenings.

Wednesday to Friday (21st-23rd) will be the coldest part of the week. The north and east will remain wet and cold, with the most moisture expected on the 21st. Central and southern regions will see increased cloudiness with isolated rain in the mountains; while the sun may occasionally appear in the plains, the difference between day and night temperatures will be significant. On the outlying islands of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, it will be windy and cold. Low temperatures in open areas of the north and Yilan could dip to 10°C.

By Saturday and Sunday (24th-25th), the strong cold air mass will finally weaken, and temperatures across the region will gradually rise. However, due to radiative cooling, mornings and nights will still be cold, with highs in the north and Yilan remaining below 20°C. The eastern region, north coast, and Greater Taipei mountains may still see localized showers, while other areas will return to multi-cloud to sunny skies.
