(FWA 2025/11/10)Typhoon Fung-wong made landfall in the Philippines on the 9th and is expected to gradually turn north. Will there be a chance for a typhoon day off? According to the Central Weather Administration’s (CWA) 120-hour forecast for the probability of being affected by the storm circle, issued at 8 AM this morning, the probability for the main island of Taiwan is entirely over 70%. Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Tainan, Chiayi County/City, Yunlin, and Nantou all have a probability of 90% or higher. However, the decision to suspend work and classes is still determined by each county and city government.

The CWA’s “120-hour Probability of Being Affected by Storm Circle” forecast shows Tainan City has the highest probability at 95%, followed by Chiayi County and City, both at 93%. Kaohsiung City and Yunlin County are at 91%, while Pingtung County and Nantou County both reach 90%. The probability for all of Taiwan’s main island is above 70%, with Taipei City at 77%.

According to the “Regulations for Stopping Work and Classes Due to Natural Disasters,” the criteria for suspension are: 1. Based on the weather forecast, areas that the typhoon’s storm radius may pass through within 4 hours could experience average winds of Level 7 or higher, or gusts of Level 10 or higher; or 2. Based on the forecast or actual observation, the 24-hour cumulative rainfall is expected to reach 350 mm on flat land or 200 mm in mountainous areas (some counties/cities use 350 mm for both), and has already caused or threatens to cause disasters. However, the decision to suspend work and classes is still made by each county and city government.
