Apple’s latest iPhone 17 series went on sale in Taiwan on September 19, 2025. On launch day, major telecom companies, including Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and FarEasTone, offered special deals, and lots of people lined up to buy. Apple’s official stores in Taiwan also allowed preorder customers to pick up their new devices in person.

Police reminded the public that new phones should only be purchased through official, certified, and trusted platforms. If a preorder price seems far too low, it is a clear sign of a scam.

The four new models include the 6.3-inch iPhone 17, the 6.5-inch iPhone Air, the 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro, and the 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max. Prices start at NT$29,900, the same as last year, but the minimum storage has increased to 256GB. The priciest model is the iPhone 17 Pro Max with 2TB, selling for NT$72,900.

Many people want to be the first to get the new phones. The police warned that scammers often lure buyers with phrases like “limited stock,” “super-low preorder price,” or “guaranteed first pickup.” These are highly likely to be scams. To avoid paying without ever receiving a phone, purchases should always be made through official channels.

Police added that scam groups frequently use text messages to trick people into clicking fake shopping websites. The public is urged to beware of unfamiliar links, not to believe in cheap preorder offers, and never to make payments through fake ads or suspicious sites. Common scam tactics include “discount sales,” “fake preorders,” and “private transactions.” In reality, official prices will not be much lower than the market price. Buyers should stick to the Apple website or authorized retailers and avoid private transfers, ATM operations, or suspicious links.
