On September 19, 2025, Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) decided to raise residential electricity prices by an average of 0.71%.
Officials said current electricity rates are much lower than the actual cost of power generation. In recent years, global fuel prices have gone up, and Taiwan Power Company has already taken on part of the extra costs. Since selling prices have been lower than supply costs, the company has faced big losses. Because of this, electricity rates now need to be adjusted.
The Ministry explained that for households, the goal is to cover costs and encourage people to save energy. For monthly use under 700 kWh, the price will go up by NT$0.1 per kWh; for 701 to 1,000 kWh, by NT$0.2 per kWh; and for more than 1,001 kWh, by NT$0.4 per kWh. For small businesses, usage under 700 kWh will also rise by NT$0.1 per kWh, but rates above 701 kWh will stay the same to help reduce the impact on prices.
