(FWA 2026/02/23)A review of the recent African swine fever outbreak : One case, one source, no signs of spreading

•Problems with the management of food waste sources and distribution

•Food waste transportation vehicles tested positive

•The death rate of pigs that consumed food waste was 15.7 times higher than pigs fed standard feed

•Other pig farms using food waste from the same source tested negative multiple times because they cooked the food waste in a timely manner

Based on epidemiological analysis, people, vehicles and pigs from overseas were ruled out as potential sources of infection. It is therefore inferred that the virus probably came from food waste that was not properly cooked

The outbreak is now under control. Samples from pig farms across Taiwan tested negative, and cleaning and disinfection operations have been enhanced. A special thank you to everyone for their active cooperation and assistance
