Recently, there have been many accidents caused by power banks catching fire. Most of these happen because of poor product quality or incorrect use. Such incidents can damage your phone and even cause injuries. To improve safety and stop unsafe products from entering the market, Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) has increased border inspections for power banks by 10 times.

BSMI reminds everyone that power banks use lithium batteries, which store a lot of energy and charge quickly. However, if the quality gets worse or the power bank is used the wrong way, it can overheat and catch fire.

When buying a power bank, remember 2 important things. First, look for the BSMI safety mark on the product. Second, go to the “Product Safety Information Network” (https://www.bsmi.gov.tw/wSite/public/Data/1141003a.pdf)  to check if the product has any safety violations or if the manufacturer has withdrawn it.

When charging your power bank, don’t leave it alone. Keep it away from high heat, humidity, and flammable materials. Unplug it right after it’s fully charged. If you notice the power bank is damaged, swollen, or looks unusual, stop using it and replace it immediately.

When throwing away an old power bank, don’t just toss it in the trash or garbage truck. It must be collected separately. You can hand it to your local sanitation crew or environmental protection team when taking out your garbage.

購買行動電源前 確認產品檢驗合格

近期有許多行動電源起火造成的意外事故，主要原因為產品品質不佳，或使用時操作不當，不只造成手機損壞，更嚴重的甚至會人受傷。經濟部（台灣）標準檢驗局已將行動電源商品的邊境抽驗比例提高10倍，加強品質把關，防止不合格商品流入市面。

經濟部提醒，行動電源屬鋰電池產品，具有高能量密度與高效充放電等特性，但若品質衰退或使用不當，容易發生「熱失控」現象，造成起火風險。

當局提醒購買行動電源時，應掌握兩大重點，首先，請認明BSMI商品檢驗標識。其次，可上「商品安全資訊網」(https://www.bsmi.gov.tw/wSite/mp?mp=1)查詢商品有沒有違規，或者業者有沒有主動召回特定產品。

此外，民眾使用相關產品時，也要避免無人看管時充電，使用時留意周遭溫度，避免高溫、潮濕或有易燃物的情況下使用。充飽電時，應立即拔除電源。如發現行動電源有異常破損、膨脹之情形，要立刻更換。

行動電源丟棄時，必須單獨回收，可以在倒垃圾時交給當地的環境保護局清潔隊處理，不可任意丟棄至垃圾車。
