The Department of Labor, The Taipei City Government has been running free health care events for foreign migrant workers. The fourth session has already finished, serving more than 230 workers in one day. The department said the final session of the year will be on November 9 at Taipei Main Station, and all legally employed migrant workers in Taiwan are welcome to join the free check-up.

Health is a basic right for everyone and the key to working with peace of mind. For many migrant workers who travel far to Taiwan, language barriers and long working hours often cause them to miss the chance for timely check-ups and treatment. The Taipei City Government hopes that through this free health service, migrant workers can feel safe at work and live healthier lives.

Besides general check-ups, there will also be consultations in dentistry, ENT, internal medicine, gynecology, psychosomatic medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine. Interpreters will be available on site so workers can clearly communicate their condition to doctors and understand the medical advice.

The Department of Labor, The Taipei City Government said the number of migrant workers in Taiwan is about to pass 850,000, with more than 250,000 working as caregivers. Nearly 20% of them are in Taipei City, the largest share in the country. Many migrant workers put off medical care because of busy schedules or language barriers, so the health events provide interpreters to support communication and give health guidance. Over the past ten years, more than 2,000 migrant workers have benefited from this program.
