Google has recently issued an urgent warning to Gmail users worldwide after many people received a new type of scam email. The sender is shown as “[email protected],” making it look like an official message. The email claims that the user’s Google account is under investigation by law enforcement and demands that they “disclose personal information” or “provide certain documents,” using terms like “official subpoena” or “law enforcement inquiry” to create fear.

These scam emails redirect users to fake Google login or support pages. If someone clicks the link and enters their account details, or even “authorizes” access to view or download so-called legal documents, they are essentially handing over partial access to their Google account, which could lead to the exposure of sensitive personal information. Google urges users not to click on suspicious links and to delete such messages immediately.

Google also advises that if you receive any message claiming to be from the company and asking for your password or personal data, delete it at once and never click on any links or reply to the email. To check the status of your account, go directly through the official website. In addition, Google recommends switching fully to passkeys, which let you sign in using a fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN, replacing traditional passwords and two-step verification.

Gmail
