The Taoyuan City Government is currently expanding inspections of smoking bans. Anyone who are caught smoking in hospitals, nursing homes, or on public transportation will be fined between NT$2,000 and NT$10,000. The City Government reminds everyone to follow the rules to avoid breaking the law and receiving penalties.

According to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, all schools, medical and social welfare institutions, public transportation, indoor public venues, and entertainment facilities are completely smoke-free. Managers of these places must display clear no-smoking signs at all entrances and are prohibited from providing any containers for extinguishing cigarettes. Those who violate these rules may face fines ranging from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000.

The Taoyuan City Government stated that managers of these places have the responsibility to maintain order. They must stop people from smoking illegally, refuse to provide ashtrays or other tools for putting out cigarettes, and clearly show the no-smoking rules. They must also check all entrances regularly, including side doors, back doors, and parking lot entrances, to make sure no-smoking signs are complete. If the signs fade, are damaged, or fall off, they can get new ones for free from the Department of Public Health or district health centers.

The authorities stressed that both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes are harmful to health and and they also cause secondhand and thirdhand smoke problems. Before lighting a cigarette, people should always check whether the location is a smoke-free area, so as not to be fined due to negligence, while also respecting others’ right to breathe smoke-free air.

桃園市擴大稽查 違規吸菸重罰1萬元

桃園市政府自即日起擴大禁菸稽查，民眾違規在醫院、安養中心、大眾運輸吸菸，將罰鍰新台幣2,000元以上10000元以下。提醒民眾務必遵守規定，以免觸法受罰。

菸害防制法規定，各級學校、醫療社福機構、大眾運輸、公眾消費及休閒娛樂之室內場所等，皆屬全面禁菸場所。上述場所負責人應在入口處明顯位置設置禁菸標示，不得提供任何容器作為熄菸器具使用，違反規定者，可處1萬元以上5萬元以下

桃園市府表示，各場所管理單位應善盡管理之責，除勸阻違規吸菸者、拒絕提供熄菸器具外，亦有責任清楚標示禁菸規定，務必定期檢視所有出入口，包括側門、後門及停車場入口）禁菸標誌之完整性。如有褪色、破損或是脫落情形，可就近至衛生局或各區衛生所免費索取更換。

當局強調，無論是傳統紙菸或電子煙皆對人體健康有害，也會造成二、三手菸危害。點菸前，應留意所在位置是否為禁菸場所，避免因一時疏忽，違規受罰，同時維護他人拒吸二手菸的權利。
