(FWA 2026/08/06) For expats and migrant workers living in Taiwan, knowing the garbage truck schedule is an essential part of daily life. This guide provides a detailed overview of Taoyuan City’s garbage disposal regulations, from basic rules and website inquiry tutorials to scheduled collection for oversized waste and designated drop-off points, helping you manage your schedule with ease.
I. General Rules & Garbage Disposal Principles
Strict Fines: Do not dump trash arbitrarily on the streets. If you fail to properly sort recyclables or are found illegally dumping trash upon inspection, you will face a fine between NT$1,200 and NT$6,000 under the Waste Disposal Act.
Total Recycling of Raw and Cooked Food Waste: Taoyuan City officially implemented the “Total Recycling of Raw and Cooked Food Waste” policy on April 1st. Please drain the liquid from your food waste and pour it into the food waste recycling bucket at the back of the garbage truck. The collected food waste undergoes anaerobic digestion to generate green energy, or rapid fermentation to produce agricultural fertilizer, realizing a circular economy.
Collection Schedule: Garbage collection services in Taoyuan City run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Services continue on regular weekends but are suspended during National Cleaning Week and the 1st to 4th days of the Lunar New Year.
II. Simple Guide for Trash Collection Route Website & APP
Garbage collection can occasionally be delayed by weather, traffic, or waste volume (e.g., trucks must travel to incinerators to empty when full). It is recommended to download the “Taoyuan Garbage Truck” (桃園垃圾車) APP to check real-time dynamics, or use the official website to track the vehicle’s location.
Go to the Taoyuan City Government Environmental Management Office’s “Garbage Collection Route Real-time Inquiry System” (https://route.tyoem.gov.tw/), and click the “Collection Point Inquiry” (清運點查詢) function in the top right.

A window will pop up. You can search by “My Location”, “Map Center”, or “Address”.

Set your search conditions: select the administrative district (e.g., Luzhu District, Taoyuan District), search radius (100 to 800 meters), collection type, and track display.

After clicking search, the 3 closest collection points to your location will be highlighted in pink. The track represents the garbage truck route, and the garbage bin icon indicates the collection point location and arrival time.

III. Recycling Categories and Schedule
Taoyuan citizens only need to sort trash into 3 main categories: General Waste, Recyclables, and Food Waste. Waste dry batteries and fluorescent tubes (which contain harmful substances) and disposable tableware (which contaminates other recyclables) must be separated from other recyclables.
Mandatory Recyclables: Iron containers, aluminum containers, waste glass containers, waste paper containers (including foil packaging), waste plastic containers, waste dry batteries, waste motor vehicles, waste tires (outer), lead-acid batteries, waste IT equipment, waste home appliances, waste lighting sources, waste flat plastic packaging, and waste pesticide containers.
Taoyuan City Additional Recyclables: Clean old clothes (excluding quilts, underwear, shoes, socks, etc.), empty fire extinguishers, copper/zinc/tin, mercury thermometers, clean plastic bags, plastic suitcases (remove lining first), helmet shells, and umbrella frames.
Non-Recyclables (Throw in General Waste): Oil-stained paper, plastic-coated paper, carbon paper, wax paper, glossy waste paper, used toilet paper, diapers, etc.
Food Waste Rules:
Recyclable Food Waste (Throw in Food Waste Bucket): Leaves, fruits, leftovers (raw and cooked food waste and residues).
Non-Recyclable Food Waste (Throw in General Waste): Clam shells, oyster shells, durian shells, pineapple crowns, corn cobs, sugarcane peels, water chestnut shells, bamboo shoot shells, hard and tough items like beef/sheep/pig large bones, and other hard-to-decompose materials.
IV. Oversized Waste / Large Furniture Collection (Appointment Required)
Oversized waste (e.g., spring mattresses, bicycles, large appliances, sofas, cabinets) must be collected by the local cleaning squad and cannot be thrown directly into the regular garbage truck. For general household renovation waste, apply by phone or in person at the local squad. Renovation waste from commercial contractors is not accepted. Apartment residents must move items to the first floor themselves.

Please note that designated drop-off points are not open 24 hours a day. Searching for these addresses on Google Maps may yield inaccurate information or photos, as the addresses provided in this article—such as cleaning squad offices and garbage truck parking lots—are for reference only. Upon arrival, please look out for the official Department of Environmental Protection trash bins, recycling sorting bins, and food waste buckets (the actual locations are often under bridges, inside parking lots, or near parks). Additionally, ensure that you only dispose of your garbage during the permitted collection hours. If you are unsure, do not dump your trash arbitrarily to avoid fines for violating regulations.
