(FWA 2026/08/14) For expats and New Immigrants living in Taiwan, knowing the garbage truck schedule is an essential part of daily life. This guide provides a detailed overview of New Taipei City’s garbage disposal regulations, from basic sorting rules and website inquiry tutorials to oversized waste appointments and the use of designated garbage bags, helping you manage your schedule with ease.
I. General Rules & Garbage Disposal Principles
Strict Fines: Do not dump trash arbitrarily on the streets. If you fail to properly sort recyclables or are found illegally dumping trash upon inspection, you will face a fine between NT$1,200 and NT$6,000 under the Waste Disposal Act.
2026 Food Waste Policy (No Raw/Cooked Distinction): In line with central policies, starting January 1, 2026, household food waste in New Taipei City no longer needs to be separated into raw and cooked categories. Please drain the liquid and pour all food waste together into the food waste bucket at the back of the garbage truck. The collected food waste will be prioritized for diversified recycling to achieve circular economy goals.
Collection Schedule: Garbage and recycling collection services in New Taipei City run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (services are suspended on Wednesdays and Sundays). Please refer to the specific announcements of your local cleaning squad for detailed schedules.
II. Simple Guide for Trash Collection Route Website (Including Fixed Point Inquiry)
Garbage collection can occasionally be delayed by weather, traffic, or excessive waste volume. It is recommended to use the “New Taipei City Garbage Collection Information Network” to track the real-time location of garbage trucks and collection points.
Step 1: Go to the website and click inquiry
Go to the New Taipei City Garbage Collection Information Network (https://crd-rubbish.epd.ntpc.gov.tw/dispPageBox/Ntpcepd/NtpHp.aspx?ddsPageID=HOME] and click on “Collection Point Inquiry” (清運點查詢) at the top of the homepage.

Step 2: Select Map Search
Select “Map Search” (地圖查詢) from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: View nearby collection points
After entering Map Search, the system will automatically display nearby collection points based on your location.

Step 4: Check detailed collection point info
Click the garbage truck icon on the map to display detailed information, including: Scheduled arrival time, Current collection status, Estimated garbage truck arrival time, and the collection types (General waste, Recycling, Food waste).

Step 5: Citywide Fixed Points Inquiry (If you miss the regular truck)
If your schedule doesn’t match the regular garbage truck times, you can click on “Citywide Fixed Points” (全市定點) at the bottom left.

Click on a fixed point on the map (purple clock icon) to view its open hours from Monday to Sunday. A green icon means it is collected, and a red icon means it is not collected at that time.

Icon Introduction
The system has built-in icons for easy identification: a gray garbage truck means Off duty, an orange garbage truck means On duty, and a purple clock means Fixed point collection.

III. Recycling Categories and Hazardous Materials Rules
Citizens must separate their waste into 3 main categories: General Waste, Recyclables, and Food Waste. Do not mix them into the designated garbage bag.
General Recyclables: This includes clean plastic bags, packaging foam (Styrofoam), and waste glass containers. Please sort them properly and hand them over for recycling separately.
Hazardous Materials & High-Pressure Cylinders (Strictly prohibited in garbage trucks): High-pressure aerosol cans (such as gas canisters, insecticides, hairspray, and cleaning agents) are highly explosive under high temperatures and compression. Please strictly follow the “4 Steps” for disposal:
Confirm Empty (完): Ensure it is completely used up; if not, empty it in an open area.
Pack Independently (包): Pack the container separately from other trash.
Warning Label (警): Add a warning label saying “Contains High-Pressure Cylinder” on the outer packaging.
Hand Over (收): Give it directly to the recycling staff; never throw it into the general garbage truck.
Other Items to Separate: Waste dry batteries must be separated to prevent leakage, and power banks and lighters must also be handed over separately as they are prone to explosion or spontaneous combustion.
General Waste (Non-Recyclable): Animal bones, hard shells (e.g., clam shells, durian shells), uncooked raw meat, organs, and their related products are not considered food waste. Please put them in a designated garbage bag and hand them to the garbage truck for incineration.
IV. Oversized Waste / Large Furniture Collection (Appointment Required)
Oversized waste (e.g., mattresses, bicycles, large appliances, sofas, cabinets) must be collected by the local cleaning squad and cannot be thrown directly into the regular garbage truck. Citizens can make an appointment via the “Oversized Waste Online Appointment System” or by calling their local cleaning squad directly.

Purchase them at convenience stores, supermarkets, or shops displaying the “Designated Garbage Bag Sales Point” sticker.
