How this new scam works
•Scammers call impersonating government agencies, telecom companies, hospitals, or courier services
•Claim to be “assisting with an investigation” and ask victims to communicate via LINE or a video call
•Ask for personal information and financial details
•Ask victims to download an unknown app or purchase a new cellphone so they can take control of the device and authentication process
•Persuade victims to enable call forwarding on their phone
•Intercept verification calls from the bank
•Use that access to make unauthorized credit card transactions and steal funds from bank accounts
Three key features of new scam:
•Do not immediately ask for a transfer of money : The focus is on first taking control of the phone and financial accounts
•Exploit the call forwarding function : so banks are unable to contact customers directly
•Combine malicious apps with account binding
•Gradually take over the authentication process
